Strawberries
With the growing trend for green, local, and organic produce on the rise. Our families tried our hand at strawberry picking last May. Quite the adventure with 3 children under the age of 5 and 2 pregnant mommies! But we had a blast, we ate a ton and I don't think we squashed too many berries in the process! We brought home a ton of berries that we have enjoyed all year in the form of jelly. My stash is gone, so now that it's May again you might find our families back in the fields. This year we'll be there with 5 children under the age of 6 and no pregnant mommies! PTL =) P.S. Making your own Jelly is a great alternative to store bought jelly that is full of sugar and other ingredients that are hard to pronounce. Plus, it makes for a great gift! Pair it with a batch of muffins or a loaf of homemade bread and you will be popular!!!!

Yeah! Strawberry picking is such fun and fun it was to all go to the patch together and pick our berries. Poppy especially enjoyed his walk with the kiddos to discover all the hidden secrets behind the barn on the farm. I sit here remembering our years of strawberry picking in NJ beginning when you were both about the size of Lily. Besides making strawberry jam, one of my favorites has always been Donna McNatt's recipe for strawberry pie. When Mr. Edward's would harvest his rhubarb, Dad would smile from ear to ear when he was served strawberry/rhubard pie; his absolute favorite.
ReplyDeleteThank you for bringing to mind these wonderful memories.
Mom-I saw rhubarb at Kroger this week! We are so making a strawberry/rhubarb pie after we go picking! YUM!
