The Joy of Cooking...baby food!

This past year we both gave birth to baby boys. Our newest additions were born 14 weeks apart to the day! We had so much fun being pregnant together and our boys are going to be best buds! Since we've both done the baby thing before we felt as though there wasn't much we hadn't tried. However, neither of us had ever tried making our own baby food. So as our little men grew older we grew wiser and decided to try our best to "create" and "care" for out little men as best as possible! WOW! What a fun experience! We both can't believe that we hadn't tackled baby food with our other babies. What were we thinking? It's so EASY and YUMMY! Have you every tried the stuff out of the jar? So not yummy! Our little men are loving what we make for them and we love that we know every little ingredient that they are eating! Now neither of them will even eat the jar stuff and we are obsessed with making different types of food combinations for them! With just a few easy steps you can make baby food for your little ones. The benefits are amazing; healthy food for you baby and extra money in your pocket. And our personal favorite-the feeling of pure joy after creating in the kitchen!!!
Step 1. Pick out what veggies and/or fruit you want to make. (We suggest starting your 4-6 month old on yellow/orange veggies 1st)
Step 2. Bake or boil your veggies. Most veggies retain more vitamins and taste better if baked. Step 3. Peel and cube veggies. Blend/puree in food processor.

Step 4. Freeze in icecube trays. Once frozen, remove from tray and place in Freezer bags. Will last in freezer for one month.
*Avocados are a great 1st food and they don't have to be cooked! Slice and freeze on baking tray, once frozen move to freezer bag. The color will darken when thawed but the taste is the same. So easy!
We hope this encourages you to make "homemade" food for your little ones!

Girlie-girl Hair-bows

We love to accessorize!!! "Accessories, the last thing to put on and the first thing to be noticed" is one of our favorite quotes. One of the joys of having little girls is to dress them up! We love letting them wear earrings, neckless, bracelets and rings (and they both have plenty, thanks to their Nona!) One easy way to add an accessories to a little girls outfit is to add a hair bow. You can dress up shorts and a tee by just adding a cute bow. The effect is amazing. Who doesn't love a little girl with a big hair bow? Truly the last thing to put on, but defiantly the first thing to be noticed!

We love making our daughters their hair bows and recently we started make these new types. If you are interested in any of them let us know.

Pomp & Circumstance!

We are so PROUD of our parents. Today our Daddy graduates with his MBA and our Mommy graduates with her AA. They have worked so hard over the past few years to make these dreams come true. We are forever grateful to you both for pouring out your hearts as you raised us to walk in the way of wisdom and to fear the Lord. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for us. We love you!!! We also think it's pretty darn cool that we now all have degrees from the same university! Go LU!!!

Must Have Item of the Year!!!

We just had to write about our new way of cleaning our hardwoods. The Shark Steam Mop! I have tried everything under the sun to clean my floors, from swiffers (so full of chemicals, I had to stop using them, plus I didn't like the way they cleaned my floors) to resorting to the good ole fashion way of cleaning with a mop, a bucket, some water and vinegar. The mop method worked well but talk about time consuming, I might as well have gotten on my hands and knees it took me so long. With all the craze of going green and staying away from chemicals this new (new to us) and efficient way is revolutionizing our cleaning regimen. I'm telling you, if you are saving your money to only buy one thing this year, this should be it!! You won't be disappointed! Oh and if you buy it from Bed, Bath and Beyond make sure you use a 20% off coupon...that'll knock the price down quite a bit. The funny thing is and it just goes to show what kind of women we are...our hubbies bought us our Shark Mops for Vday and Mother's day. I guess we can be grateful it wasn't the old blender-for-anniversary-kind-of-gift. ;)

Strawberries

With the growing trend for green, local, and organic produce on the rise. Our families tried our hand at strawberry picking last May. Quite the adventure with 3 children under the age of 5 and 2 pregnant mommies! But we had a blast, we ate a ton and I don't think we squashed too many berries in the process! We brought home a ton of berries that we have enjoyed all year in the form of jelly. My stash is gone, so now that it's May again you might find our families back in the fields. This year we'll be there with 5 children under the age of 6 and no pregnant mommies! PTL =) P.S. Making your own Jelly is a great alternative to store bought jelly that is full of sugar and other ingredients that are hard to pronounce. Plus, it makes for a great gift! Pair it with a batch of muffins or a loaf of homemade bread and you will be popular!!!!

Officially catching up to the 21st century!

After reading friends blogs and being inspired to start our own we are finally "online". Now to find the time to blog between the dirty dishes, dirty diapers and dirty laundry. :) Wish us luck!
